LES SECRETS DU TRÉSOR D’HANNAUX
Les secrets du trésor d’Hannaux
Alexandria National Museum 2024
Once one of Egypt’s most prominent luxury department stores, Hannaux occupied a distinctive place in the social and cultural life of Alexandria. Beyond its role as a destination for fashion and luxury, the store preserved an unexpected historical legacy within its main vault.
This exhibition presents 86 historical coins discovered inside Hannaux’s vault and later examined in 2022 to verify their authenticity and historical significance before being donated to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in 2024. The collection spans different periods—including Ptolemaic, Alexandrian, Roman, Ottoman, and European eras—and reflects centuries of political, economic, and cultural exchange. Among the highlights is a rare coin depicting Alexander the Great.
Curated and designed by Mahmoud Saïd, the exhibition takes place at the Alexandria National Museum as part of the 15th edition of Journées du Patrimoine Alexandrines (2024).
