MUSEO LORIA
MUSEO LORIA
Les œuvres architecturales de Giacomo Alessandro Loria
For the first time, the Centre d’Études Alexandrines (CEAlex) presents an exhibition dedicated to the architect Giacomo Alessandro Loria (1876–1956), one of the key figures in shaping modern Alexandria during the first half of the twentieth century. The exhibition brings together previously unpublished archival material, including original architectural drawings preserved within the private archives of the Kelada Antoun Family, presented as part of an ongoing CEAlex archival digitization project dedicated to preserving and enhancing access to Alexandria’s architectural heritage.
Hosted within the Kelada Building itself—designed by Loria and made available through the generosity of Mr. Mansour Kelada—the exhibition creates a dialogue between archival documents and built space, allowing visitors to encounter the architect’s work within one of his own architectural projects. Additional archival material related to the Coterie of the Little Venice Building further expands the reading of Loria’s contribution to Alexandria’s urban and architectural history.
Coinciding with the relocation of the CEAlex headquarters to the Kelada Building in 2024, the exhibition reflects on the role of archives in reconstructing the city’s architectural memory and reintroduces Loria’s work within the contemporary life of Alexandria.
